<link>http://gk12-uiuc.net/pn764/html/Article26.html</link>
<description>

  GRADUATE
TEACHING Fellowships in K-12 Education (GK-12)
for Students
in the Science, Mathematics, and Social Science Disciplines

Applications
are now being accepted for 2008-2009
To
ensure full consideration, applications
should be received by March 17, 2008

About the program
The National Science Foundation
Graduate Teaching Fellowships in K-12 Education (GK-12) program will
support teaching fellowships for UIUC graduate students in the sciences,
mathematics, and social science disciplines. The selected students
will collaborate with campus faculty and participating K-12 teachers
to incorporate computer-based modeling, scientific visualization, and
informatics tools in K-12 science, mathematics, and social science education.
Responsibilities of the fellows include developing appropriate materials
and visiting classrooms to observe, assist teachers, and co-teach courses.
For more information about the current program please see http://gk12-uiuc.net.

Application procedure
Graduate students enrolled
in the Schools of Molecular and Cellular Biology, Integrative Biology,
Chemical Sciences, and Library and Information Science, the Departments
of Animal Sciences, Anthropology, Atmospheric Science, Geography, History,
Mathematics, and the College of Engineering are encouraged to apply
for these teaching fellowships. This program requires a year-round
commitment of approximately 20 hours/week, and travel to a collaborating
school at least once per week during the academic year. Fellows
will receive a $30,000 stipend, paid in monthly increments. Selection
will be based on the student’s education, teaching experience, communication
skills, and scientific competence as represented in the submitted written
materials and a personal interview. Prospective applicants are
encouraged to discuss the program with one or more of the participating
program faculty listed below, Project Director Deanna Raineri (rainer&#105;&#064;&#117;iuc.edu), or Project Coordinator Lisa Bievenue
